Oaxaca is the second poorest state among the 31 states of Mexico; despite having great biodiversity and benefiting from the state's tourism industry. Oaxaca is home to 33% of the country's indigenous population. Students often drop out of school due to a lack of financial resources and support systems. To combat these problems, the CEI developed an educational program to generate feelings of belonging and promote family unity through the defense of their human rights.
